Concessionary Travel

Cumbria County Council is responsible for administering the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS).

Cumbrian residents who have a NoWcard are entitled to free bus travel between 9.30am and 11.00pm Monday to Friday and all day Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays throughout England on local bus services.

All English National Concessionary bus passes can also be used on local bus services in Cumbria.

You may qualify for a Disabled Personís NoWcard if you:

  • are blind or partially sighted;
  • are severely or profoundly deaf;
  • are without speech;
  • have a long term disability or injury which seriously impairs the ability to walk;
  • are without the long-term use of both arms;
  • have a learning disability that is a state of arrested or incomplete development of mind which includes significant impairment of intelligence and social functioning;
  • would, if applied for a driving licence, be refused on the grounds of physical fitness. 

Companion Concession

If you have a Disabled Personís NoWcard and cannot travel without help then your carer will be able to travel with you free of charge.  This is a discretionary concession which the County Council offers.  Your companion is only able to travel at the same time as you within the Countyís boundary.  A companion form can be requested when you apply.
