24/10/2012 - Silloth Local Links official opening today
Today sees the official opening of Silloth's new Local Links (Wednesday, 24 October 10:30am) - a one-stop-shop for local services.
Working in partnership, Cumbria County and Allerdale Borough Councils have brought together public services into one convenient place, where people can access a wide range of services.
Housed at the Solway Coast Discovery Centre on Liddell Street, Silloth Local Links offers library services - including IT and web access - tourist information and Cumbria County and Allerdale Borough Council services.
Cumbria County Council Chairman Norman Clarkson and Allerdale Borough Councillor Philip Tibble will officially open the Local Links on Wednesday, 24 October 10:30am.
Cllr Clarkson said: "This is a great resource for Silloth. Local councils are always looking at ways of improving and extending services at no extra cost.
"Here we have not only brought our services together as a Local Link but also increased the opening hours by staff working together flexibly."
Allerdale Borough Councillor Philip Tibble, Executive member with responsibility for customer services, said: "Local Links are a great example of joined up thinking, working in partnership with others and sharing resources for the benefit of the community.
"The Tourist Information services, information for the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and the Library services are now all accessible from the Solway Discovery Centre in Silloth. This is an excellent example of us all working together to provide accessible and efficient services. It has also enabled us to extended opening hours for these services which are valued by residents in, and visitors, to Silloth."
The new Local Links is open for 26.5 hours a week - an increase in opening hours for both Silloth Library - up from 21 hours - and the Tourist Information Centre - up from 22 hours.
The Discovery Centre is also home to the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Exhibition and Educational Resource Centre.
