County councillors in Barrow have awarded more than £ 15,000 to help fund projects and initiatives in the area.
Barrow Local Committee today (Friday 11 May) approved plans to allocate money from the Local Revenue Scheme for the following causes:
o £ 4,000 to contribute towards a new fire alarm system in Dalton Drill Hall
o £ 500 towards a summer multi-sports event for young people in Dalton, Newton and Askam
o £ 2,388 at both Newbarns Children's Centre and Hindpool Children's Centre towards some much needed play and storage equipment (totalling £ 4,776)
o £ 5,500 towards new roof timbers and work at the front of the building at Hawcoat and Ormsgill Memorial Hall
Councillor Ray Guselli, Chairman of Barrow Local Committee said: "The money we're giving is aimed at helping these excellent local schemes and groups to continue making a positive difference to the lives of people across Barrow.
"The Local Committee recognises the valuable contribution they make to our communities and are delighted to be able to support them."
