1/10/2008 - Family Learning Festival

Parents and carers in Cumbria are being urged to join in a month long festival of family fun and learning.

Nearly fifty different activities and events at more than thirty locations throughout the county will celebrate the Family Learning Festival, which runs throughout October.

It’s a chance for you and your family to discover new interests, hobbies, skills and have lots of fun.

Activities range from One 2 One Computing and Baby Massage to family Halloween trails and Clock Making workshops.

All courses and activities are provided free of charge.

It’s organised by the lifelong learning charity Campaign for Learning and is an awareness campaign aimed at highlighting the importance that families can have in supporting each other’s learning.

The serious message behind the family fun is that family support of a child’s learning has the single biggest impact on their educational development.

Emma Brown, Family Learning Development Officer, Children’s Services, Cumbria County Council said:

"This is a great opportunity for parents and carers throughout Cumbria to engage with their children and form a learning bond while having fun trying out something new."

Last year more than 3,500 organisations nationwide took part in what was then National Family Learning Week. To mark ten years of Learning celebrations, this year will offer a month long range of activities.
