31/5/2006 - Love lending? Answers on a postcard please

Cumbria’s Library Service is asking the county’s families to spell out what they love most about lending.

Organised by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA), the national Families Love Libraries campaign is asking Cumbrian lenders to say what it is that makes their library service special.

Throughout June, families can use special postcards available from their local branch, mobile library or Library Link to spell out what’s brilliant about borrowing in Cumbria: whether it is the trained staff, the modern online facilities, or the 1.4 million books, DVDs and other items of stock on offer.

Cumbrians taking part will be entered into a special prize draw with the chance to win one of six family cinema tickets.

The consultation, which coincides with National Sure Start Month, will also give families the opportunity to suggest one thing they would change about their library service to make it even better.

Councillor Roger Bingham, cabinet member responsible for library services, said:

“Cumbria County Council prides itself on maintaining a library service that is accessible and welcoming to families with children.

“Through our network of local branches, mobile libraries and Library Links, we offer a range of family-friendly services.

“All children and young people, from babies to teenagers, can become members of Cumbria Libraries and gain access to a vast range of books and multimedia items as well as a packed programme of school holiday activities."

Joining Cumbria Libraries is simple and membership is free. For more information, people can contact their local library or visit the Cumbria County Council website at www.cumbria.gov.uk
