22/3/2006 - Over 350 children and one big cheetah celebrate going to school

Primary school children from nearly thirty different schools will be at the South Lakes Wild Animal Park in Dalton this Thursday (23 March) to celebrate the continuing success of the scheme 'School Attendance Matters'.

Known as SAM, the scheme is based on character from the wild animal park and the children spending the day there on Thursday have either greatly improved their attendance or it is 100 per cent.  Since the start of the campaign in 2003 unauthorised absence in the county's primary schools has reduced by nearly a quarter.
