A representative from Capita will be at the next Wetheral and Stanwix Rural neighbourhood forum meeting on Thursday (26th) to speak to residents about the temporary closure of Wetheral Viaduct footbridge.
The footbridge, which is attached to Corby Bridge, forms an important link between Great Corby and Wetheral. The bridge is in need or repair and routine maintenance work – the metal components need to be cleaned and painted and the wooden deck replaced where necessary. To do this the bridge needs to be closed, for about 12 weeks starting on 28 February 2006.
County councillor John Robinson will be chairing the meeting. He said:
"Great Corby residents use this footbridge to walk to Wetheral for many local amenities. In order for the footbridge to be safe and in good state of repair this work is essential. We have already consulted residents of Great Corby to determine the need for alternative means of crossing between the two villages. We hope to be able to give an indication of that need at the forum and discuss how we can accommodate this."
The forum will meet at Corby Hill Methodist Chapel at 7.30pm. Other items on the agenda include:
1. Drainage and gulley cleaning
2. Carlisle Renaissance
3. Police matters and other local issues
4. Grants
