4/1/2006 - Refurbishment for Keswick Library

Visitors to Keswick Library can look forward to better and more accesible facilities in the coming weeks when the library undergoes a refurbishment.

Work begins on the building from the 9th January and will see all services made available on the ground floor. Essential fire maintenance work will also be carried out and the library will benefit from an upgrade its interior.

Up to the 4th February Keswick Library will operate to its normal timetable but will be closed on Thursdays.

From the 4th February the library will be closed and a limited service will be provided from a Mobile Library situated immediately outside the building. This will be on site on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 11.00 and 15.00 and on Saturdays between 09.30 and 12.30.

The work should be completed and the library back to business as usual from Monday 20th March.

Alternative branches can be found at Cockermouth, Workington, Penrith and Carlisle and a mobile service will cover the outlying areas surrounding Keswick as usual.

People can get more information on alternative branches, and mobile provision from Workington Library on 01900 325170 or from the libraries website - www.cumbria.gov.uk/libraries.

County councillor Roger Bingham, spokesman for the Library Service says:

"We firmly believe that our services should be available to all library visitors and this work will make that possible in Keswick Library. I would like to remind people that they can use their library card at any branch and return loans to any branch. We apologise for any incovenince and hope everyone will be patient while we put better and more accessible facilities in place."
