31/1/2006 - Funding boost for Allerdale youngsters

Youngsters in Allerdale will benefit from more than £7500 extra funding after the county council's local committee approved grants to nurseries and after school clubs in the district today.

A total of £7685 was awarded to the OT Tots Nursey, Lorton After School Club and Keswick After School Club.

The OT Tots Day Nursery in Workington succesfully applied for £4636 to replace the flooring in their building. The nursery has been working closley with an Allerdale Development Worker to ensure that they meet Ofsted Early Years National Standards. The new flooring is part of an ongoing development programme enhancing the nursery provision at the centre.

Lorton After School Club received £1306 to fund new equipment to help them deliver fun play activities. The club provides valuable childcare in a rural setting and it is hoped that the new equipment will help attract new children to the club.

Keswick After School Club were awarded £1743 to contribute to their general budget and help cover costs of materials activities and food.

County councillor Gerald Humes, Chairman of Allerdale Local Committee says:

"These nurseries and after school clubs provide excellent and reliable childcare which can often be difficult for working parents to find. It can be difficult for these clubs to find the financial support they need and Allerdale Local Committee is very proud of the support we are able to offer them."
