28/2/2006 - Closer partnerships to benefit Cumbrian children

The future for Cumbrian children will look more secure when partners in the Cumbrian Children's Trust sign their partnership agreement on Thursday.

Cumbria County Council and its partners have been working towards Children’s Trust arrangements in Cumbria since the beginning of 2005 to deliver improved and more cohesive support for children and young people. The partnership protocol maps out methods and a way forward to achieve this.

The agreement will be signed at 13.30 (02/03/06) in Kirkby Thore Memorial Hall.

Representatives from the all the agencies involved will be on hand including:

Cumbria County Council, Connexions Cumbria, Cumbria Police, the Strategic Health Authority, Learning Skills Council, Morecambe Bay PCT, North Cumbria PCT, Youth Offending Service, Probation Service, Carlisle City and Allerdale and Barrow Borough Councils, and a representative of Voluntary sector.

The agreement will help all agencies to guarantee a more coordinated approach and ensure the best for every Cumbrian child, young person and their family.

All partners in the Children's Trust are currently working on the county's first Children and Young People’s Plan which will engage young people in its development. Young people across the county have been estensively consulted to help draw up the values which will underpin the plan and all the Childrens Trust's work.

County councillor Phillip Chappelhow, cabinet member for Childrens Services says:

"A more integrated approach and closer partnerships between public bodies isn't just a requirement. I think everyone recognises that sound teamwork and a coordinated, cohesive approach is the right way forward to ensure the best furture for young people in Cumbria.

Everyone at the council and all our partners want the best possible support and start in life for young people in the county. This partnership agreement will help us put in place a plan to work together and make sure we deliver that support to our children and young people."
