7/12/2006 - Media Opportunity: County Council Long Service Awards

Some of the county’s most loyal civil servants will be recognised this week in Long Service Awards for Cumbria County Council.

The event will take place on Friday 8th December at Tullie House Museum, Carlisle. There will be a photo and broadcast media opportunity at 12pm.

In order to qualify for a Long Service Award, people must have worked for Cumbria County Council for 35 years. Last month, similar awards were held for 20 people in the county council’s Children's Services department. Now it is the time for all other areas of the council to be recognised.

The 13 winners this year include:

- Two care home workers

- A watch manager and a driving instructor for Cumbria Fire and Rescue service

- Two principle quantity surveyors

- The head of Highways & Infrastructure

The winners will be presented the award by the county council's Chairman Allan Caine. He said: "These people have served the people of Cumbria loyally and faithfully and deserve all the recognition this award entails. They all work behind the scenes and the general public wouldn’t know their faces… but without their contribution this county would be a very different place.”

Each recipient will be presented with a gift to the value of £350 - which represents £10 for every year's service.
