17/8/2006 - County council congratulates A level students

Cumbria County Council is today (Thursday 17 August) congratulating students and teachers on this year's A level results.   Young people who gain good A level passes have the opportunity to go on to further or higher education.

Moira Swann is the corporate director of the council's Children's Services.   She said:

"At this stage we only have a very general idea from our schools about their results, but the picture we are getting is that they are very happy with them.

"It is also looking as if the high standards achieved in Cumbria over the last five years will continue.   It's good news that it seems the county's performance is keeping pace with national figures.

"Studying for A levels requires a lot of hard work and determination.   I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the students, and the parents and teachers who have supported them."
