Children at Carlisle Library have received the Royal seal of approval for a birthday card designed there in a special competition to mark the Queen’s 80th birthday.
Junior library users were invited earlier this year to draw inspiration from Nicholas Allan’s popular children’s book ‘The Queen’s Knickers’ and come up with their own design in noble knickers, fit for a monarch.
The winning design by Samantha Lithgow Newstead, a seven year-old Brownie from Denton Holme, was reproduced as a birthday card and signed by the children before being sent to the Queen.
Buckingham Palace has now sent a letter on behalf of the Queen thanking the children at Carlisle Library for ‘the splendid card’ which shows Her Majesty walking her Corgis wearing a crown and a long red dress.
Cumbria County Council's Library Operations Manager Liz Bowe said: “I am delighted for the children at Carlisle Library who have clearly designed a pair of noble knickers fit for a Queen.”
