4/8/2006 - New bus service is good news for Barrow

A new bus service will run from Barrow town centre to Furness General Hospital via the Thorncliffe Road, Cemetery Gate from Monday, August 7.

The new No.5 bus will operate hourly from Monday to Saturday with the first bus leaving North Scales at 9.30am and the last return leaving from the hospital at 2.00pm and the Cemetery at 2.04pm.

The new service is being supported with an extra £5,000 funding from Cumbria County Council's public transport budget.

Changes to other routes in Barrow have meant that the current 4B service to North Scale, which is already supported by the county council to the tune of £11,000, needed to be revised. The opportunity has been taken improve the service with the new link to the Cemetery Gates and the new direct link from North Scale to Furness General Hospital.

The level of service to North Scales will remain unchanged.

Timetable leaflets are available from Barrow Tourist Information Centre, North Scale Community Centre, in Cow Tarns Lane, other local outlets, on the bus or from Traveline on 0870 608 2 608.
