Youngsters at three Cumbrian schools will be receive impressive prizes for taking part in a successful school recycling scheme on Wednesday, 26th April.
Maryport Infant School, Dalton St Mary’s CE Primary School in Furness and Culgaith CE School near Penrith will all receive music-making equipment as winners in the national Recycling Rewards for Schools campaign.
Recycling Rewards for Schools started in November to encourage school pupils to collect recycling pledges from family and friends. The pledges are then turned into points for the pupils’ schools and exchanged for valuable equipment like computers, cameras and musical instruments.
Dalton St Mary’s Primary and Maryport Infants both won guitars while Culgaith CE School won a set of music stands.
Jack Richardson, spokesman for waste and recycling, will be on-hand at Dalton St Mary's to congratulate the children on winning their guitar.
He said: "Recycling Rewards for Schools has helped teach these youngsters about recycling and sustainability and has got them talking family and friends into doing the right thing and recycling more of their rubbish.
"There have been 15,000 individual pledges to improve recycling rates in Cumbria - as long as people live up to their promises that should make a real difference in the county.”
Recycling Rewards for Schools is now finished but while it was running 96 Cumbrian schools collected 14,984 pledges from people promising to recycle more of their rubbish.
The campaign finished on the 31st March and all final pledges, points and prizes are now being calculated.
The latest set of prizes will awarded at the schools listed below on Wednesday, 26th April, at the following times. Reporters and photographers are welcome to attend.
