12/4/2006 - Photo opportunity: Easter Feaster

Volunteers at Cumbria County Council's Meals On Wheels service will be pulling on their Easter bonnets tomorrow in Carlisle to deliver a feast of Easter treats ahead of Good Friday.

The fancy dress promotion is a great opportunity for a picture caption story - as well as highlighting the service provided to some of Cumbria's elderly people over the holiday season.

The photo opportunity will be held at Cumbria County Council's Client Services building at 10 Edward Street, Carlisle at 10.30am tomorrow, Thursday April 13th.

Meals on Wheels will be providing a special Easter-themed hot menu, with one main course and one pudding costing £1.60 per meal.

Meals on Wheels are delivered to the frail and elderly throughout Cumbria by community-based volunteers and members of the WRVS.

“Holidays are a time when people should be thinking about others, and this Easter promotion is a light-hearted reminder of that. Meals on Wheels volunteers are a fantastically dedicated group of people who demonstrate week in, week out that they’re willing and able to put others before themselves,” said Councillor Oliver Pearson, cabinet member responsible for adult services.

The service always needs volunteer helpers and drivers to help out for two hours once a week/fortnight/month. Volunteers receive car expenses.  Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer should telephone 01228 607693.
