You can explore the wide range of museums and important historic sites within Cumbria and discover for yourself the roots of the county. From Hadrian's Wall to the Border Reivers, Cumbria has a rich history to uncover.
The County Council also has a Historic Environment Service responsible for maintaining records and interpreting sites and monuments. The County's Historic Environment Service is augmented by archaeologists working for the Lake District National Park and the National Trust.
There are also more than 50 museums in Cumbria, covering a wide range of subject matter and spread across all parts of the county. The North West Museums, Libraries and Archives Council provides information and services to a wide range of museums throughout the North West of England.
