Our vision for Cumbria

For the people of Cumbria to benefit from sustainable economic growth and an enhanced quality of life.

Our vision for Cumbria County Council

To be an effective and efficient organisation that delivers the best possible services for the people of Cumbria within its available resources, protects the vulnerable, and works with others in the community to shape services and help find solutions for the future.

To achieve this vision Cumbria County Council has to change. Our financial challenges and growing demands for our services mean we need to review our services, services which affect people in our community every day. For example we support, maintain, provide, educate and care for everyone. We speak up for Cumbria on regional or national issues like jobs and investment. We are responsible for the more strategic local services of the county, including education (schools, both primary and secondary), libraries and youth services, social services, highway maintenance, waste disposal, emergency planning, consumer protection, town and country planning for minerals matters, waste and highways.

All of this change is will be delivered is driven by our Council Plan.

Our Council Plan is supported by our Workforce Development Plan (PDF 3MB) and our Medium Term Financial Plan.
