Summary of Equality for All 2012-2016

Equality for All is based on the following definitions:

Equality

Equality is about everyone having the same chances in life and getting the same access to the services they need.

Diversity

Diversity is about understanding and respecting people's different needs and aspirations.  We cannot achieve equality without addressing diversity.

Equality is not about treating everyone the same.

To achieve this vision in Cumbria we need to make sure that:

  • Public services are reaching out to everyone
  • Elected Members and community leaders have equality as a central part of their role
  • We are addressing inequalities people face from early years and education through to accessing services as older people
  • That equality is at the heart of how we manage our staff.
