At 12:00 firefighters were called to a farm vehicle on fire on Salkeld Road, Langwathby. The crew used a hose reel to extinguish the fire in the mobile straw chopper which contained a large bale of straw. The crew dragged the materials out of the machinery and used small tools at the incident.

At 20:07 firefighters were called to a report of a fire involving hay which had been left unattended on Boarbank Lane. The crew used a hose reel jet to put out the fire and a thermal imaging camera to check there were no areas of heat that could reignite.

At 01:03 one fire engine from Barrow and two fire engines from Ulverston were called to a fire on Lesh Lane in Barrow-in-Furness. The fire was in a pizza shop but had spread to the flats above. Crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the property quickly to confirm that there was nobody trapped. They then used a hose reel jet and a thermal imaging to deal with the incident. They remained at the scene for about an hour.

At 13:59 firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on the A689 Birky Lane, Walby. The incident involved three private vehicles with five casualties including two people trapped. The crew got two people out and two air ambulances attended along with five ambulances.

At 01:38 firefighters were called to a report of a fire off the U3272 to the B6261 in Orton. When they arrived crews found a fire in a farm building measuring about 60mx20m. The building also contained a large quantity of straw and some fertilizer. Firefighters set up ground monitors to spray water onto the fire. Farm staff moved livestock to a safe area.

Semi detatched property well alight in Hethersgill

At 06:44 firefighters were called to a fire involving a single storey semi detached property on the road leading from Hethersgill cross roads north to the houses east of Newlands. The fire was well alight when the fire crews arrived. Two hose reel jets were used to tackle the fire. Two firefighters wore breathing apparatus. Firefighters removed the roof tiles to allow them to fight the fire. Nobody was trapped inside the property, but an ambulance was requested for two casualties. Police were requested to attend the incident to close the road. UPDATE 10:18 - One fire engine remains at the scene. UPDATE 13:20 - Firefighters have spent the morning cutting away and damping down at the site of the fire. They had created a fire break between the affected property and its adjoining neighbour which successfully prevented the blaze spreading to a second property. All utility supplies to the property have been isolated. Crews are continuing to damp down.

At 09:12 firefighters were called to a report of a fire in a shop on Main Road. They found a fire in a light fitting which the crew, two wearing breathing apparatus, put out using a hose reel jet. They then ventilated the property.

At 12:36 firefighters were called to a report of a barn on fire on Urswick Road in Mascalles. The blaze turned out to be a load of refuse on fire. The crews used drag rakes and a hose reel jet to put out the fire. Urswick Road was closed by police while firefighters tackled the incident as smoke was drifting across the road.

At 17:05 rope rescue firefighters were called to rescue a woman who had fallen down the slag banks on Forge Close. The team worked to bring the casualty to ground level using ropes and a sling harness. Police and ambulance were also at the incident.

At 03:25 firefighters were called to a property at Sandes Avenue, Kendal which was involved in a fire with persons reported inside. On arrival the crew found all persons accounted for and one woman who had apparently escaped via a window outside and suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation. One hose reel was used to extinguish the flames in the ground floor kitchen of a flat and a covering water jet was also used to fight the fire. Paramedics attended this incident.

Two casualties were released from the vehicles by firefighters and handed to the care of paramedics. The crew used hydraulic cutting equipment and lighting to enable them to rescue the casualties from the collision.

At 18:28 firefighters were called to a report of a fire in the cellar of a house in Daltongate. They didn't find a fire but the cellar was full of smoke after a log burning stove had been lit. Crews in breathing apparatus found high levels of carbon monoxide and, working in conjunction with the National Grid, firefighters ventilated the property using a high pressure fan. Firefighters were at the scene for just over an hour and a half.

At 02:54 firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on the M6 South J40 to 39 involving two heavy goods vehicles and one car. Firefighters found there was no fire and no one trapped inside any of the vehicles so they proceeded to make the scene safe only. J42 to 49 were also affected.

Updated at 16:08: the crew stabilised the vehicle and extricated one man from the vehicle and onto a spine board and into the care of paramedics.

At 18:21 firefighters were called to a road traffic collision at High Cross Brow. One casualty was trapped in a van which had hit a tree. The crews stabilised the vehicle and released the casualty, a man, using cutting gear. Because the van was in a precarious position they needed to use a winch to stabilise the area to keep working conditions safe. They were at the scene for around one hour.
