Cumbria Sports Awards

Do you know a sporting hero?

Cumbria Sports Awards

The search to find the award winners for the Cumbria Sports Awards 2008 will end this Friday, so make sure you get your nominations submitted in time to make the deadline! The deadline for nominations is Friday, October 17th, 2008.

It couldn’t be easier to nominate your sporting hero. Nominations can be made on-line at www.cumbriasport.com (external link). Nomination forms are also available from branches of the Cumberland Building Society or by contacting Cumbria Sport Partnership on 01228 226885. Nomination forms should be returned to Cumbria Sport Partnership, 5 Portland Square, Carlisle, CA1 1PU.

Awards organisers Cumbria Sport Partnership are asking Cumbrian sports fans to send in their nominations. But it is not only the headline-grabbing professional stars they are looking to honour.

We are looking for heroes for awards in 10 categories that recognise various levels of sporting success, in addition to the support services of administration and coaching.

Do you know or work with a budding young sportsperson, veteran or master athlete who just keeps achieving? It could be a volunteer who has worked tirelessly over the years to transform your club, or your son or daughter who has excelled in their chosen sport and won championship events. The awards will also honour the dedication of NGB accredited coaches. Do you know a local coach who has trained a team to victory?

Nominations can be made for:

Sports Personality of the Year: The finest achievement throughout the year by an individual.

Team of the Year: Best team achievement throughout the past year.

Performance of the Year: Best single performance by an individual or team during the year.

Junior Sports Personality of the Year (under 18 at 31 December 2008): The finest achievement throughout the year by an individual.

Junior Team of the Year: The finest achievement by a young team throughout the past year (18 years or under).

Performance Award for People with a Disability: Best single performance by an individual or team during the year (from a recognised disability)

Special Award: To be awarded at the discretion of the judging panel.

Service to Sport Award: To acknowledge dedicated services to sport(s) in Cumbria (regardless of length of time).

Volunteer of the Year: Greatest contribution to a club, performer, community or school by a volunteer of any age this year.

Coach of the Year Award: Nominations limited to accredited NGB Coaches only.

The nominations are open to anyone who you feel who has achieved great things in sport locally or who has made a huge voluntary contribution to sport in Cumbria during 2008. In addition to the main awards, five Cumbria Rising Star trophies will be awarded to juniors who demonstrate high sporting potential.

The annual awards are presented at a presentation dinner at the Low Wood Hotel, Windermere. Tickets for the event, which is on the 28th November 2008 are £25 and available by contacting the organisers Cumbria Sport Partnership on 01228 226885.
