Student Support Services

Student Support Services is part of Admissions and Student Support within Cumbria's Children's Services Directorate. Student Support provides financial assistance to children and young people in Cumbria to cover additional costs of education.

Student Support Services manages a range of support services ranging from free school meals to higher education student support.

Boarding Grant Scheme 
The scheme applies to pupils of statutory school age who are educated as boarders. 
 
Free School Meals 
For pupils whose parents are in receipt of a qualifying benefit. 
 
Higher Education Funding 
Whether studying for a part-time or full time HND, degree, diploma etc, a range of financial support is available to help students fund their study. 
 
Learner Support Fund 
Financial help for young people aged 16-19 who are attending a school Sixth Form. 
 
Education Maintenance Allowance 
Assistance for young people aged between 16 and 18 who are continuing in Further Education. 
 
Student Support Services 
Student Support provides financial assistance to children and young people in Cumbria to cover additional costs of education. 
 
Travelling Expenses 
Depending on the age of the student travel expenses between home and the nearest college offering the chosen course may be available. 
 
Trust & Other Funds 
There are a small number of trust funds, currently administered by Student Support Services,that offer young people a small financial award based on qualifying criteria.
