Current Regeneration Projects


Barrow Waterfront - Ramsden Business Park:  Creating development opportunities for private sector investment and new jobs.  The business park is at a standard ready for private industry to develop.  Find out more about The Waterfront.

Barrow Town Centre:  Delivery of new sandstone paving and high quality street furniture has improved the appearance of the town centre for residents and visitors to help boost trade and business growth in the town centre.

Derwent Forest:  Derwent Forest Development Consortium is working with local partners to redevelop a 1000 acre ex-MOD weapons store site by working with a developer to deliver community benefits.

Kendal - Canal Head:  Supporting the private sector to create a new neighbourhood by redeveloping the Canal Head area adjacent to the town centre, with 600 jobs expected and up to 200 homes together with a hotel, superstore and new commercial premises.

Lillyhall - Construction Skills Centre:  Creating a new bespoke education and training facility to ensure local people have the skills to access new employment opportunities in the construction sector.

Maryport Harbour:  Continuing the regeneration of the harbour, creating new opportunities for investment so that the harbour can flourish as a vibrant quarter of Maryport. 

Penrith Town Centre:  A new identity and a unique pedestrian signing and street furniture scheme to improve pedestrian movement around the town.

Silloth Green:  £ 2m of investment has transformed the public open space of this Victorian seaside town and improved its appeal for education, events and recreation.

Workington - Navvies Footbridge / Northside Bridge:  Reconnecting communities after the 2009 floods destroyed both bridges.  Completion of works and opening of bridge expected September 2012.

Workington - Port of Workington:  Providing an an end to end logistics option for businesses in Cumbria and beyond.  £ 5.7m is being spent on a new harbour mobile crane, improvements to the port facilities and a weekly scheduled container service to Rotterdam.  Find out more about the new logistics gateway to Europe.
